“Not Against Flesh and Blood:” Practicing Spiritual Warfare in the Real World

Greg Boyd and Sandra Unger (Friday at 7:30 p.m.)

Practicing ministry with those entrapped by poverty reveals that there is an enemy at work in our world. But often we fail to see the real forces that work against us and make people into our enemies. In this session we will identify the true nature of this spiritual war and discover how we can relate to and stand with those in poverty.

A Church of Compassion: New Challenges and Fresh Responses

Jin Kim (Saturday at 10:00 a.m.)

The challenges that we face in our cities, nation and world can only be described as overwhelming. We could ignore them and continue in our church habits as we have for hundreds of years, or we could ask what it means for a church to respond with the compassion of Jesus. Pastor Jin Kim has extensive experience wrestling with these questions as he leads his unique church to respond with creative hope.

Compassion and Calling: Hearing God’s Call on Your Life

Efrem Smith (Saturday at 2:45 p.m.)

Compassion is at the heart of who God is, and at the center the Kingdom that Jesus came to establish. God calls all of his people to be compassionate but this cannot mean trying to minister to everyone who has a need. God has a specific call for each of us as individuals, groups and churches. This session will conclude the conference with a challenge to hear God’s general call for all of us as his people, and to seek God’s specific call for each of us individually.
